2 charged in ear-biting attack at McLaren Hotel in Winnipeg

Police have named a woman accused of biting off parts of a Winnipeg hotel worker's ears and charges have been laid against her and aman accused of taking part in the attack.

LaverneBunn, 40, was also hit with a bat and had her hand and finger bitten in the June 19 attack at the McLaren Hotel on Main Street.

Charmaine Fiddler, 24, is charged with aggravated assault and failure to comply with prior court conditions andDonald (Rocky)Loupelle, 44, is charged with aggravated assault.

As well,Fiddler allegedly attacked Loupelleat the time of their arrest on Wednesday and wascharged with another count of assault for that, police said.

Bunn was on duty at the hotel when a man and a woman came in at 2:30 a.m. She previously told CBC News that she recognized the man as a former hotelresident who had beenevicted for drinking.

She tried to close the door on the pair butfell backwards. Thewoman then jumped her and began beating her up, hitting her in the face, pulling her hair and biting her. Bunn lost pieces of her ears in the attack.

At one point, she managed to push the woman off, but when Bunn tried to get away the man knocked her back down by hitting her with a bat.

The couple ran off afteraresident came downstairsand called 911.

Loupelle and Fiddler remain in police custody.
