Manitoba woman infected with West Nile virus

A Manitoba woman has been infected with West Nile virus.

Investigation ongoing into woman's case, but current risk for human exposure is low, officials say

Health officials believe a woman in her 50s, who lives in the southern health region, became infected with West Nile virus during the week of July 26.

A Manitoba woman has been infected with West Nile virus.

Hers is the first human case of WNV in the province this year, according to Manitoba health officials.

The woman,in her 50s, lives in the southern healthregion. She did not experience neurological symptoms and has not been hospitalized, the province said in a press release.

She is believed to have been exposed during the week of July 26.That'sthe week after Manitoba health officials announcedthe first mosquitoes carrying theWest Nile virus had beenfound.

The investigation is ongoing into the woman's case, official said, adding thecurrent risk for human exposure in the province is low.

Information on any additional human cases, including age, gender, health region of residence and likeliest area of exposure, will be posted on the government websiteas it becomes available.
