Manitoba Marathon means Father's Day delays in Fort Rouge area

For people heading out for a last minute Father's Day gift on Sunday, the Manitoba Marathon might lead to traffic delays.

The marathon will see about 14,000 runners take to the road in the Fort Rouge area.

From 8 a.m. until 12 p.m. access from PembinaHighway onto Jubilee Avenue will be restricted in both directions, the City of Winnipeg said in a release. Westbound traffic on Jubilee Avenue will be able to access southbound Pembina Highway, but drivers won't be able to head north.

There will also be restrictions starting at 8:30 a.m. on the intersecting roads along Harrow Street, including Corydon Avenue, Grant Avenueand Taylor Avenue.

Winnipeg Police will be helping to direct traffic.

Motorists are being reminded to allow for additional travel time and to detour through Kenaston Boulevard instead of using Pembina Highway.

On top of the closures for the marathon, Waverly Street between Taylor Avenue and Wilkes Avenue will be completely closed until Monday morning for CN railway crossing maintenance.
