2 Manitoba artists take home wins at 2024 Juno Awards

Two Manitoba-born musicians will get to add to their collection of Juno awards, after taking home wins Saturday night.

Two Manitoba-born musicians will get to add to their collection of Junoawards, after taking home wins Saturday night.

Winnipeg singer-songwriter William Prince and Brandon's James Ehnes won big at the 53rd annual JunoAwards, hosted in Halifax's Scotiabank Centre on Saturday and Sunday.

Prince won his second Contemporary Roots Album of the Year award for his album Stand in the Joy.He won that same award in 2017 for his record Earthly Days.

Prince was also nominated for Songwriter of the Year, bringing his total nomination count at the Junoto five.

Ehnes now has 11 Junos after his in the Classical Album of the Year (Solo Artist) category for Nielsen: Violin Concerto, Symphony No. 4.He was also nominated for Classical Album of the Year (small ensemble).

Other Manitobans made appearances Saturday, including singer Begonia, who was nominated for Adult Alternative Album of the Year for the second time. She also sang "Butterfly" during the gala's in memoriam segment.

Manitoba artists garnered nominations in 10 categories this year. That includes Ottawa-born artistLeith Ross, alternative metal outfit KEN mode, guitarist Jocelyn Gould, the band Zoon and composer Haralabos (Harry) Stafylakis.

The Juno Awards continue on Sunday night, when winners ofawards such as Album of the Year and Group of the Year will be announced.
