Jubilant homecoming for Manitoba Olympian Desiree Scott

Canadian Olympic soccer star Desiree Scott arrived home to a jubilant welcome in Winnipeg Monday night.

Scott was on theCanadian women's soccer team that won the bronze medalin London last week.

A boisterous crowd waited for a couple of hours and erupted with cheers and applause when Scott finally arrived just before 8 p.m.

"This is amazing. I'm a very emotional person and to come home and hear your name being screamed ... this is not something I'm used to. This is unreal," said Scott.

Hector Vergara, director of the Manitoba soccer Association, presented Scott with a bouquet. "She had a fantastic tournament. She is one of our elite players in Manitoba, a very strong player and obviously a leader," said Vergara.

"I'm happy if I can inspire young kids," said Scott as hundreds of fansincluding many excited young soccer playersgreeted her warmly and loudly.

Earlier,Charlene Gusberti, Scott's mom,predicted her daughterwould cry at the emotional welcome.

"She gets very emotional, we're very emotional people. So she'll probably cry. I'll definitely cry," Gusbeti said.

"That's the problem, that's why I don't even go to the airport anymore when she leaves."
