Manitoba Hydro warns of 'suspicious solicitors' visiting homes to check furnaces

Manitoba Hydro is warning the public to be wary of door-to-door visits from people claiming to be connected to the utility offering to check furnaces.

Manitoba Hydro is warning the public to be wary of door-to-door visits from people claiming to be connected to the utilityinsisting on checking homeowners' furnaces.

AnthonyKoop, a spokesman for Manitoba Hydro, said reports of the "suspicious solicitors"have come from Winnipeg, Brandon andSelkirkover the past couple of weeks.

Once the personenters the home and checks the furnace, they try to sell the homeowners a new furnace with zero per cent financing.

"What we want our customers to know is that Manitoba Hydro is not involved in any such program," hesaid. "We're advising homeowners to deny entry to these people."

Anyone representing Manitoba Hydro has photo IDwith a Manitoba Hydro logo, and homeowners should ask to see that, hesaid.

Homeowners who have any doubts about the identity of a person claiming to be from the company can call 1-888-624-9376to confirm the person's identity before they let the person into their home.
