Man charged with 1st-degree murder in homicide of man found dead in Winnipeg

A 36-year-old man has been arrested and charged with first-degree murder in the killing of a Winnipeg man whose body was discarded in the city's North End late last year.

A 36-year-old man has been arrested and charged with first-degree murder in the killing of a Winnipeg man whose body was discarded in the city's North End late last year.

Winnipeg police say officers were called Flora Avenue west of Main Streeton Dec. 30, where they found a deceased man outside. Investigators later determined he was the victim of a homicide.

The victim has since been identified as Brooklyn Elijah Hiebert, 20, of Winnipeg.

Hiebert was fatally assaulted by another man nearby on Selkirk Avenue, police said in a news release Tuedsay.

His body was then moved to Flora Avenue, where it was abandoned, the news release said.

Christopher Kyle Wattman, 36, was arrested in connection with the homicide on Sunday. He has since been charged with first-degree murderand remains in police custody.
