High winds to raise water levels on lakes, province warns

Provincial officials are warning property owners on the south shores of Lake Winnipeg and Lake Manitoba to take precautions Wednesday in advance of strong winds forecast for Thursday.

Provincial officials are warning property owners on the south shores of Lake Winnipeg and Lake Manitoba to take precautions Wednesday in advance of strong winds forecast for Thursday.

The strong winds were expected to raise water levels by up to a metre on the southeast shore of Lake Manitoba, and by about half that on the lakes south shore.

As for Lake Winnipeg, the provinces Hydrologic Forecast Centre is predicting wind speeds could raise water levels by one to 1.5 metres in the lakes south basin.
