The Winnipeg Art Gallery is being "yarn-bombed" that is, festooned with handmade scarves in time for the Crafted Show + Sale in two weeks.

Hundreds of knitters, crocheters and other crafters donated the scarves, which will adorn the gallery before and during the show on Nov. 6 and 7.

"Over 400 people have participated to send scarves, so we're doing an art installation," Hennie Corrin, co-chair of the show's organizing committee, said Friday.

"Then after the Crafted Show + Sale, all these art installations will be taken apart and distributed to worthy recipients."

The scarves will be part of Chase the Chill in Winnipeg, which ties donated handmade scarves onto trees, posts and parking meters the inner city available free of charge for anyone who needs something warm to wear.

Crafted is the first-ever juried craft show at the WAG.

Fifty artisans from Manitoba and Nunavut are participating in the event, which will take over all four floors of the art gallery with displays and workshops.

"There's ceramics, there's fibre, there's jewelry. You name it, it just fits the whole spectrum," said co-chair Joyce Berry.

Daily admission is $5. Tickets can be purchased on the WAG's website or at the door.
