Guns seized in raid on home

Several long guns and drugs were seized from a home in Winnipeg's Elmwood neighbourhood.

The raid happened on Mighton Avenue Tuesday evening, police said.

A 26-year-old man and 26-year-old womanwere arrested andare facing drug- and weapon-related offences.

Residents on the short block told CBC Newsthatabout a half-dozen police cars descended on the area at about 4 p.m.

Three cruiser cars were parked at one end of Mighton, and three at the other.

The heavily armed Winnipeg police tactical support team was then called in around 7 p.m. alongwith acanine unit, neighbours said.

Police thenentered a small home at the Henderson Highway end of the street. A sign onthe garage for that home states:"This house guarded by shotgun three nights per week. You guess which three."

Police said the raid stemmed from a drug bust earlierthe same day when members of the street crimes unit searched a residence on Royal Crescent in Garden City.

Approximately 74 grams of Methamphetamine with an estimated street value in excess of$18,000 was seized in that raid, police said.

A search warrantfor theMighton Avenue home wasthen obtained by police.

Mighton Avenue is located just off the first block of Henderson Highway at the north end of the Disraeli Freeway bridge.

Traffic stop nets gun

Police also seized a gun and several rounds of ammunition during a high-risk traffic stop on Henderson Highway.

Two men, aged 23 and 28, werearrested and charged with numerous firearm related offences in connection with theincident, whichtook place at about 2 a.m. Wednesday in the 1700 block of Henderson Highway.

Police spokesman Const. Jason Michalyshensaid the two gun incidents were not related.
