Goose causes power problems in Winnipeg

A goose caused a major power outage insouth Winnipegon Tuesday.

The Canada Goose flew into a hydro transmission line, which tripped the line and shut down power to a large area, said Manitoba Hydro spokesperson Anthony Koop.

Geese typically bounce off the lines but this time, the bird got tangledand caused electricity to arc anddamage equipment, he said.

Traffic lights were off at a number of locations in the city, including:

• Bishop Grandin Blvd/Pembina Highway
• Pembina Highway/Plaza Drive
• Pembina Highway/Chevrier Blvd
• St. Marys Road/ Bishop Grandin Blvd

There wereseveral crashes but no reports of any serious injuries.
