Thousands of Winnipeggers take part in Festival du Voyageur in 1973, as this archival CBC video shows.

Hho! With the 2015 Festival du Voyageur underway in St. Boniface this weekend, we look back at the annual Franco-Manitoban celebration in the early 1970s.

This CBC-TV archival video shows what the festival looked like in 1973, complete with a parade, outdoormidway rides and elaborate costume dance parties.

But while some things have changed over the years, some key aspects of the festival remain the same.

"As many as 10,000 people attend outdoor events like snowshoe racing, sleigh rides and family days in the park," the narrator says in the middle of the video.

"Something for everyone, with an emphasis on the history of the Franco-Manitobans costumes and act that recreate pioneer days."

This year's Festival du Voyageur runs until Feb. 22 at Voyageur Park and other official venues.
