Winnipeg fire crews called to house, truck blazes overnight

Another night, another round of fires in Winnipeg.

Another night, another round of fires in Winnipeg.

Just before 2 a.m. Thursdaycrews were called to a fire in a vacant house in the 400 block of Sherbrook Street, in the West End.Police said a mattress placed against the back door was burning.

Thatfire has been determined to be arson.

No one was hurt.

Fire crews were called to a fire in a vacant house in the 400 block of Sherbrook Street, in the West End. Police said a mattress placed against the back door was burning.

About an hour before that, around 1 a.m., atow truck was on fire behind a house in the 200 block of Chalmers Avenue in Elmwood. Crews put that out quickly.

No one was hurt in that fire, either.

Crews rushed to eight fires on Tuesday night into Wednesday morning after having fought12 Monday night into Tuesday.

On Wednesday evening, there was smoke but no fire in anapartment block in the 1800 block of Main Street.

The building wasevacuated just after 9 p.m. whena smoke grenade was set off in a third floor stairwell.

No one was hurt.
