FIFA Womens World Cup officials tour IGF amidst turf lawsuit

FIFA officials said they love Winnipeg's new Investors Group Stadium, but they spent more time this weekend answering questions about its turf rather than the upcoming 2015 FIFA Womens World Cup.

Studies have shown no increase in injuries on artificial turf, says FIFA spokesperson Tatjana Haenni

FIFA officials said they love Winnipeg's new Investors Group Stadium, but they spent more time this weekend answering questions about its turf rather than the upcoming 2015 FIFA Womens World Cup.

A group of elite female soccer players has launched a lawsuit and human rights complaint arguing gender discrimination.

We really want thatFIFAWomensWorld Cup Canada 2015 to be the bestwomenssport event ever-TatjanaHaenni, FIFA

The women said they shouldn't be forced to play on artificial turf while men get to play on real grass for World Cup tournaments.

FIFA spokesperson Tatjana Haenni wouldn't say much about the lawsuit.

It's a bit of a pity we are so much into this topic and I think we should move onto the many, many positive stories this World Cup will bring, Haenni.

Haennie said FIFA studies have shown there is no increase in injuries on artificial turf.

I don't think it matters what I feel and it's not up to me to comment, I think we respect everybody's opinions and statements, but as we've said, we really want that FIFA Womens World Cup Canada 2015 to be the best womens sport event ever.

All six venues in Canada have artificial turf, including Moncton's field, which was switched over from real grass so that all the stadiums would have the same conditions.
