Downtown Winnipeg is about to be infused with a taste of the country -- a new farmers market is set to take over the Manitoba Hydro Plaza within weeks.

The Downtown Farmers Market will offer fresh produce, locally made food and live entertainment every Thursday starting July 4.

The project was a collaboration between the Downtown Winnipeg BIZ, the City of Winnipeg, CentreVenture and Manitoba Hydro.

Vendors will sell everything from Bavarian pretzels to bison meat to mukluks to sweet corn.

Folklorama performers are expected to offer entertainment to shoppers.

The market will operate from 11:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. at Edmonton Street and Graham Avenue, with the last market being held on Sept. 5.
