Family hopes posters prompt tips for missing woman

The family of a missing Manitoba woman has flooded Portage la Prairie with posters it hopes will jog someone's memory.

Amber McFarland was last seen the night of Oct. 18, 2008, at a hotel beer vendor in the city, about 70 kilometres west of Winnipeg.

Surveillance video shows her with two men inside the vendor depot.

The RCMP announced in June 2009 the case was being treated as a homicide, although McFarland has never been found.

Police did not provide any reasons for that decision. Shortly after that announcement, two men were arrested.

However, both were later released without charges being laid.

There has been very little information on the case since then and McFarland's mother, Lori, hopes the posters change that.

"She's right there looking at them and somebody that's maybe, oh, withholding information or reluctant to come forward might decide to think, 'yeah, I should I should speak up," she said.

The 300 posters were put up in businesses along the main street in Portage in honour of McFarland's 26th birthday last week.
