CBC Cooks Local at the Downtown Farmers' Market

Join CBC Manitoba at the Downtown Farmers' Market in Winnipeg each Thursday in August. Learn how to prepare delicious recipes using ingredients that can be found from local vendors at the market.

Four talented chefs, four different recipes and four Thursdays in August

You need only to look outside your downtown office window to discover fresh ingredients that can be transformed into a delicious lunch or dinner.

Each Thursday in August, CBC Manitoba willteamup with a different downtown restaurant to get creative in the cooking department. Chefs are challenged to design a brand new and easy to DIY recipe by using only locally grown ingredients that are found at the Downtown Farmers' Marketin Winnipeg.

Cooking demonstrations will be hosted by CBC Manitoba hosts Janet Stewart(Aug. 10), Ismaila Alfa(Aug. 17), Marcy Markusa(Aug. 24) and Nadia Kidwai(Aug. 31) and take place live, at 11:30 a.m. and again at 12:30 p.m. on the CBC Manitoba stage located at Portage Avenue and Edmonton Street.

If you can't get away because you happen to be tied up in a lunch meeting the cooking demonstrations will also be broadcast live on the CBC Manitoba Facebookpage and at cbc.ca/manitoba.

Schedule of chefs:

  • Thursday, August 10 --- VG Restaurant | executive chef, Tim Palmer
  • Thursday, August 17 --- The Merchant Kitchen | executive chef, Beau Schell
  • Thursday, August 24 --- SMITH | executive chef, Barry Saunders
  • Thursday, August 31 --- Nick's on Broadway | executive chef, Nick Graumann

Each cooking demonstration is 30 minutes and takes place twice, at 11:30 a.m. and again at 12:30 p.m.

A limited number of samples will be served.
