A secondfarmers' market is set to open indowntown Winnipeg.

The new market, located on Broadway in the courtyard of theWorkers Compensation Board, was launched Wednesday by the Downtown Biz.

The second location was prompted by the unexpected and overwhelming success of the market inside the Manitoba Hydro building. That one opened in2013 and drew more than7,000 visitors in its first season, according to the Biz.

"The response was incredible," said Biz chairSachit Mehra.

"Our [Hydro building] farmers market has a waiting list of vendors and we continuously field calls from those who are interested in selling at the market, saidStefano Grande, executive director of the Biz.

With a new location added, we can extend this successful program to even more vendors and producers, ultimately benefiting the entire community with increased access to local, healthy food options."

All of theinterest has also inspired discussions about starting ayear-round indoor market, Grande said.

The Broadway market will be held every Monday, 10 a.m. until4 p.m., fromJuly 7 to Aug.25.

People can expect fresh produce, bakedempanadas, panzerotti, perogies, vinegars, jams, pastured pork and chicken, home style Mexican salsa, gluten free macaroons, potatoes, bison meat, and preserves, stated a news release from the Biz.

The market in the Hydro building runs on Thursdays, 10 a.m. until4 p.m., from June 5 to Oct. 9.
