6 people sent to hospital after police-involved crash in Winnipeg

TheIndependent Investigation Unit (IIU) of Manitoba is probing aserious crash in Winnipeg's North End that involved police officers.

The IIU isa civilian agency that investigates serious incidents involving on- or off-duty police in the province.

The crash happened atMcPhillips Streetand RedwoodAvenue around 2:45 a.m. Allsouthboundlanes ofMcPhillips, startingatMountain Avenue, have been blocked since the collisionand remain that way.

According to the police,officers "were involved in an incident" that culminated in the crash.

The IIU confirmed police tried to pull over avehicle but itspedoff. The pursuit didn't last long, however, ending about a block and a half later where the suspect's car crashed withanother one.

A suspectjumped out of the vehicle and ran from the scene. Four youth in the vehicle and two adults in the second vehicle were sent to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, the IIU said.

Drivers are asked toavoid the area.
