Man jumps on Winnipeg police car hood, gets arrested for convenience store robbery

A 27-year-old Winnipeg man is behind bars after he jumpedon a police car while asking officers to kill him following a convenience store robbery, police said Thursday morning.

Winnipeg police said they got a call Tuesday afternoon about a man with scissors and a knife who was checking cars in the 600 block of Selkirk Avenue.

The man, who is accused of robbinga convenience store in the same block,was armed when police found him in the area of McKenzie Street and Pritchard Avenue

The man had scissors and a knife and asked officers to shoot him, police saidin a news release.

Police said they Taseredthe man but the shock wasn't enough to stop him.

Still armed, he jumped on the hood of their cruiser, police said.

Police shot the man a second time with aTaser andthe shock was enough to take him down, allowing officers to take him into custody.

The man was taken to hospital where he wasmedically cleared, police said.

He now faces a number of charges, including robbery, possession of a weapon, assaulting a peace officer and failure to comply with a probation order.
