Snow plows will be clearing streets across Winnipeg starting tonight, which will cost the city up to $5 million.

City officials announced the citywide plowing operation on Thursday, in response to a large dump of snow that has been blanketing the city since Wednesday.

The city says the latest snow-clearing effort, which will include sidewalks and back lanes as well as streets, will cost $4 million to $5 million and involve more than 400 pieces of equipment.

The citywide plowing effort means a declared snow route parking ban will be in effect starting at midnight and running until 7 a.m.

Crews will tow vehicles that are parked in designated snow routesand may ticket those vehicles as well, according to the city.
