A Winnipeg couple is desperate to find their missing dog after she bolted from the family's Wolseley home during a break-in.

Kristy Devantier and family members spent most of Wednesday scouring streets and back lanes near their Walnut Street home for Callie, a three-year-old chocolate brownlab-shepherd cross.

A Winnipeg couple is desperate to find their missing dog after she bolted from the family's Wolseley home during a break-in.

"She's a rescue dog and she's already got some separation anxiety and we think she's probably just really scared and we just want her home," Devantier said.

Devantier and her husband left for work at 6 a.m. Wednesday morning. Two hours later, they received a call from police that their house had been broken into.

Thieves had pried open the front window with tools from the family's barbecueand made off with several items, includingjewellery, cameras and a computer.

Devantier said a neighbour spotted Callie on the lawn outside the family's home around 7 a.m. while the break-in was in progress.

"When he went over to see her, he saw somebody on our front porch who he didn't recognize and then the dog bolted," Devantier said, adding the neighbour called 911 and ran after the dog.

As of Thursday, Callieis still missing.

"You feel really violated when somebody breaks into your house," said Devantier. "We have insurance. The stuff is all replaceable.We're just really, really worried about our dog."

Devantier and her husband put up posters and are appealing to people in the Wolseley area to check their yards and under porches, stairs and decks.

"She might be so scared she won't come when she's called, so justlook for her and if you see her, get in touch with us," she said.

Devantier hopes the dog wasn't injured by those who broke in and is praying for a phone call that Callie is found.
