Winter storm closes Manitoba highways

Much of the Trans-Canada Highway and parts of highways 2, 3 and 13 in Manitoba are closed Tuesday morning due to a winter storm blowing through the province.

Highway 1 closed from Winnipeg to Sask. border; stretches of highways 2, 3, 13 and 14 closed

A snow storm led to several closures on Highway 1 Tuesday.

Severalstretches of highwaysin southern Manitobaareclosed Tuesday morning due to a winter storm.

Highway 1 is closed from Winnipeg westto the Saskatchewan borderdue to poor road conditions.

Other closures include:

  • Highway 3from Oak Bluffsouthwest to Carman and Morden.
  • Highway 3from Cartwright south to Deloraine.
  • Highway 13 from Oakville south to Carman.
  • Highway 2 from Winnipeg west to Elm Creek.
  • Highway 2 from Highway 18 west to Souris.
  • Highway 14from Highway 75 west to Morden.
  • I-29 in North Dakota closed both ways from Fargo to Canada.
  • Highway 21 from Griswold south to the U.S. border.
  • Highway 10 south from Brandon to the U.S. border.
  • Highway 5 south from Carberry to the U.S. border.
  • Highway 23 west from Highway 5 to Highway 10.

Eastbound Highway 101 at Highway 7 was closed atBrooksideBoulevard but has since reopened.

'The craziest day'

AaronJimenez, a deliverydriver forLoomisExpress, said the whiteoutconditions were the worst he's seen in the 10 years since moving to Winnipeg from the Philippines.

"This is the craziest day I've been driving,"he said, adding highway officials told him a Highway 1 closure in Headingleylikely wouldn't be lifteduntil later in the afternoon.

"I have to deliver stuff [to Elie, Oakville and Portage la Prairie], and now I'm late Hopefully it will open soon."
