Big snow blast headed into southern Manitoba

The first full day of winter is flexing its muscles and making a statement in southern Manitoba.

The first full day of winter is flexing its muscles and making a statement in southern Manitoba.

Up to 20 centimetres of snow is expected in some areas of southeastern Manitoba, with about 10 cm for Winnipeg.

It's due to alow pressure systemtracking into the province from North Dakota. It will begin spreading snow across the international border Tuesday afternoon andcontinue into the Red River Valley and southeastern Manitoba through the early evening with heavy bands of snow at times.

The snowwill taper off early Wednesday as the system tracks intoOntario.

Total snowfall amounts will generally be in the 10-20 centimetrerange and at this time it appears the heaviest amounts will remain south and east ofWinnipeg.

  • Wind south 25-40 km/h in morning; east20-30 km/h in afternoon.
  • Wind eases up in evening, becominglight near midnight.
