Accused in Domo gas bar robbery charged in 2 other thefts

A Winnipeg man accused of robbing a Domo gas bar on Wardlaw Avenue and Donald Street last week has been charged in connection with two other commercial robberies in the city.

The 21-year-old is believed to be responsible for robberies at an Academy Road gas bar on April 1 and at a convenience store on Marion Street on June 14, according to police.

The June 19 incident at the Wardlaw Avenue gas bar ended when police officers shot the suspect, who was armed with a knife and wearing a balaclava.

The man was inside the gas bar kiosk when he "advanced on officers who responded by discharging a firearm," police stated in a news release Thursday.

The 21-year-old man has been charged with three counts of robbery, two counts of assaulting a peace officer with a weapon, three counts of wearing a disguise with intent, three counts of possessing a weapon, one count of assault and three counts of failing to comply with a probation order.He remains in custody.

Employeenot a suspect, say police

The 18-year-old male clerkwas not injured.

Police confirmed that the same employee worked at the Academy Road gas bar at the time of the April 1 robbery, and court documents show the suspect and clerk have the same last name.

CBC News has confirmed that the two are brothers.

Det.-Sgt. Natalie Aitken said contrary toreports suggestinga possible "inside job" in the robberies, police do not consider the employeeto be a suspect.

"The investigation into that matter would be deemed complete and these are the charges that that one individual's facing," she told reporters.

"We're not anticipating any further charges with respect to the robbery investigation."

Aitkenadded thatif policebelieved the other person was involved, he would have faced charges "with respect to conspiracy or something along those lines.

"We are not seeking any charges with respect to that," she said.
