St. Thomas police officer faces impaired driving charge

A police officer in St. Thomas, Ont., has been charged following a traffic stop on Sunday and is accused of driving while impaired.

A police officer in St. Thomas, Ont.,has been charged after being accused of driving while impaired, police said Tuesday.

Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) were notified of a possibly impaired driver on Elgin County roads early Sunday. It led to a traffic stop, which involved a roadside screening test thatthe driver failed.

Police saidthe driver of the vehicle was a female constable who was taken to a nearby OPP detachment office, where a breath test was administered.

The officer has beencharged with impaired operation with excess blood alcohol and has been suspendedfrom duty, according to St. Thomas police.

The accused is scheduled to appear in a St. Thomas courtroom on Nov. 26.
