SIU closes investigation into officer who administered naloxone

Ontario's police watchdog has terminated an investigationinvolvinga London police officer who administered naloxone to a man who later died in hospital.

The Special Investigations Unit (SIU) investigated the officer who was involved in an incident that took place on August 22 in the area of Huron Street and Adelaide Street North.

Police said a woman called to report that her boyfriend was in medical distress.

Police said the woman told the first officer on the scene that she had given her boyfriend two doses of naloxone.

With the consent of emergency crews, the first officeradministered another dose.

Emergency crews then continued to attempt to resuscitate the man who was later declared brain dead.

The SIUsubsequently investigated the incident involving the officer. Officials said Wednesday that the investigation had closed.

"The officer's actions did not contribute to the man's death in any way. Accordingly, I have terminated the investigation into this incident," said director Tony Loparco.

The arm's-length agency investigatesreports involving death, serious injury or allegations of sexual assault.
