Officers credited with saving two lives in 57 minutes

Norfolk OPP are crediting the quick thinking actions of officers for saving two lives in less than an hour. Both incidents happened Monday night in Simcoe.

The first call came in at 6:32 p.m. about a 28-year man in medical distress.

"Officers arrived on scene and identified that the male was in medical crisis from what appeared to be an opioid overdose," reads an OPP news release. "An officer immediately administered naloxone and revived the unconscious male."

The 28-year old regained consciousness and was taken by ambulance to hospital.

Then, at7:29 p.m., police were called to another address inSimcoe abouta 37-year-old man whowas in medical distress.

In that case, the homeowner was performing CPR on the man and officers were told that a dose of naloxone had already been administered. But, the man was still unconsciousso an officer gave himanother three doses of the opioidreversing drug.

That revived him and he was also taken to hospital by ambulance.

"Officers that attended both of these addresses were able to quickly identify an opioid overdose and administered naloxone, ultimately saving both men," saidInspector Joseph Varga, Detachment Commander, Norfolk County OPP. "When someone is overdosing, minutes can make the difference between life and death."
