Chief John Pare to retire from London Police Service

Chief John Pare of the London Police Service will retire effective June 28, 2019, according to a release sent to media Friday afternoon.

"Chief Pare focused his energy on our community being inclusive, welcoming and safe for all, including the need for better supports for our community's most vulnerable populations, including those suffering from mental health, addictions and homelessness issues," said Mo Salih, chair of the London Police Services Board.

"His deep passion for this community and the London Police Service, his vast experience and dedication to his profession will be greatly missed."

The news release added that, by staying to the end of June, Parewill give the board ample time to find hissuccessor.

Pare was unavailable for comment.

Past controversies

During his leadership, Pare has faced a number of challenges.Multiple officers were charged with criminal offices and faced disciplinary action.

Pare also came under fire when he said initially almost 700 sexual assult investigations -- found to be without merit -- were handled correctly.

Pare also expressed disappointment when his officers were barred from marching in uniform at the 2018 Pride London Parade.

Pare has been a police officerfor 33 years. He took over the top police job in London in 2015.
