3 dead, 2 cling to life this week from drug overdoses in London

London police are sounding the alarm after suspected drug overdoses left three people dead and two in critical condition since Monday.

There have been 5 fatal overdoses total since the start of 2018

London police are sounding the alarm after suspected drug overdoses left three people dead and two in critical condition since Monday.

Police said in a release on Wednesday that these deaths bringthe total number of fatal overdoses to five since the beginning of the new year.

"We don't know if it is related to illicit opioid use or another drug, but once again, we are urging people to be careful if they are going to use any drug because we know fentanyl and carfentanil are in London," said Deputy Chief Steve Williams in a release on Wednesday.

Overdose deaths

On Monday, police responded to an address on Maitland Street where a 39-year-old woman was found dead and a man was in critical condition.

On the same day, police responded to an address on Wonderland Road South, where a woman was found dead. She has yet to be identified.

On Wednesday, police said they returned to the same Maitland Street address and found the body of a man. Another man was also in critical condition inside the house. Police say they had initially returned to the address to follow up on the incident on Monday.

Two other overdose deaths happenedon Jan. 7 in separate incidents.

Police warn

London police are warning that theopioid fentanyl could be mixed with cocaine, heroin, ecstasy and oxycodone.

Signs of overdose:

  • Difficulty walking, talking or staying awake
  • Blue lips or nails
  • Very small pupils
  • Dizziness and confusion
  • Choking, gurgling or snoring sounds
  • Slow, weak or no breathing
