1 new case of COVID-19 in London-Middlesex Tuesday

The Middlesex London Health Unit reported one new case of COVID-19 Tuesday. No new deaths were reported for the region.

637 people were tested at local assessment centres Monday

The Middlesex-London Health Unit reported one new case of COVID-19 Tuesday.

There were no new deaths reported by the health unit.

Testing was up Monday, with 637 people swabbed at the Carling Heights and Oakridge assessment centres.

The total number of local casesis now at 647, with98 per cent of casesconsidered resolved.

A city committee moved one step closer to making mandatory masks a bylaw in London Monday. Councillors voted 13-1 in favour of implementing an indoor mask bylaw, with Ward 1 Coun. Michael van Holst opposed. The motion will go to a vote at Tuesday meeting of council.

The proposed bylaw was endorsed by London's medical officer of healthDr. Chris Mackieand, if approved by full council on Tuesday, it would meanfines between $500 and $10,000 upon conviction to individuals and businesses that do not comply.

However, Mackie said he encouraged education over fines when it came to any future enforcement of the proposed mandatory mask bylaw.

COVID-19 across the region and beyond

Southwestern Public Health, which covers St. Thomas, Woodstock, and Elgin and Oxford counties, reportedtwo new cases Tuesday, bringing the regional total to 93 cases, with 85 considered resolved.

Meanwhile, Ontario reported 203 new cases of COVID-19 Tuesday, passing the 200 mark for the first time in three weeks.

The Windsor-Essex County Health Unit reported 35 newcases Tuesday. The regional total has now passed 2,000 cases to 2,017. Just over 68 per cent of cases in Windsor-Essex are considered resolved.
