Trick-or-treaters beware: Wickedly windy weather comes this way on Halloween night

Trick-or-treaters in Waterloo region, Guelph and Wellington County should beware of ghouls, ghosts and gusty winds on Halloween.

Environment Canada has issued a special weather statement on Thursday afternoon calling for gusty winds starting in the afternoon and continuing late in the evening and possibly overnight.

Wind gusts near 70 km/h are expected, but areas near shorelines or the Great Lakes could see winds near 80 km/h.

"Impacts could include broken tree limbs and local power outages," the statement released Thursday by the weather agency said.

The winds are expected to diminish slowly through Friday morning.

The wicked weather comes after the region saw a record-breaking high temperature on Wednesday.

Temperatures are expected to cool off on the weekend but creep back up next week.
