Tiny homes arrive for mid-April occupancy at Waterloo region's outdoor shelter

The tiny homes that will make up the Region of Waterloo's outdoor shelter in Waterloo, Ont., are now on site and being set up.

Last month,the region's commissioner of community services, Peter Sweeney, said the goal was to have people move into the shelter by April 15. A regional spokesperson confirmed to CBC Kitchener-Waterloo this week they still have a move-in goal of "mid-April."

The outdoor shelter will house 50 people currently experiencing homelessness in the region.

There will be a communal hub that will have bathrooms, showersand laundry facilities. Health, mental health and addiction supports will also be made available at thesite.

Staff from The Working Centre in Kitchener will be managing the outdoor shelter.

Over the past few weeks,outreach workers have been speaking at shelters andencampments in the region with people who have shown interest in living in the tiny homes.
