Waterloo region tops 20,000 COVID-19 cases since March 2020

Region of Waterloo Public Health reported 50 new cases over Saturday, Sunday and Monday. It brought the total to more than 20,000 cases since March 2020.

Waterloo region has surpassed more than 20,000 COVID-19 cases since March 2020.

On Monday's update on the region's dashboard, public health reported 50 new cases: 18 on Saturday, 15 on Sunday and 17 on Monday.

It brought the total number of cases to 20,020. Of those cases, 19,608 have been marked as resolved, or 97.9 per cent.

There have been 302 COVID-related deaths in the region.

There were 107 active cases reported on Monday and 10 people in the region's three hospitals infectious with the virus.

There were two outbreaks on the dashboard:

  • One at Breslau Public School with three cases.
  • One at a construction workplace with two cases.

The Waterloo Region District School Board also reported a new outbreak at ConestogoPublic School in theBus Route 311 cohort and Room 2 cohort.

"Public Health's investigation has determined that a student case previously reported, is linked to an earlier case in the same student cohort," the board said in a statement, noting it was not a school-wide outbreak.

The region's vaccine distribution dashboard showed 90.72 per cent of people eligible to get the COVID-19 vaccine have their first dose and 87.09 per cent have both doses.

For the general population including children, who cannot yet be vaccinated, 78 per cent have gottenone dose and just under 75 per cent have been vaccinated with both doses.
