31 new cases of COVID-19 reported in Waterloo region

There are 31 new cases of COVID-19 in Waterloo region as of Sunday, health authorities say.

New cases take two-day total for Saturday and Sunday to 57

There are 31 new cases of COVID-19 in Waterloo region on Sunday, health authorities say.

On Saturday, there were 26 new cases reported, bringing the two-day total for the weekend to 57.

There are currently 192 active cases as of Sunday, withseven people currently hospitalized with the virus.

Since March, the region has reported 2,352 cases and 2,039 have been marked as resolved.

A total of 121 people have died from COVID-19 in Waterloo region since the outbreak began.

Active outbreaks

There are currently nine active outbreaks in the region. The affected areas are:

  • Four long-term care or retirement homes.
  • One school.
  • Two workplaces.
  • Two child care facilities.

On Sunday,Ontario reported 1,328 new cases of COVID-19, marking a new single-day peak for a second day in a row.

The Ontario health ministry reported 1,132 new cases on Saturday, for a total of 2,460 cases over the weekend. Both totals surpassed the previous high of 1,050, which was reported on Tuesday.
