The driver and passenger are safe after the roadway collapsed under their pickup truck. Now, Kitchener Utilities has lifted the vehicle from the hole so repairs can begin.

Two workers in Kitchener, Ont., rescued from deep trouble

Two men on their way to work for the Tri-Green landscaping companyescaped from theirpickup truck after it was submerged ina flooded sinkhole caused by a water main break on Strasburg Road in Kitchenerearly Wednesdaymorning.

"They got wet, they kind of haddo some swimming," RussLangford, owner of Tri-Green said. "The truck filled up with water immediately and they got out through the windows."

The truck had been towing a trailer, whichwas also tipped partly into the hole.

Water pumps were used for several hoursto empty the flooded hole of water before the soaked vehiclewas hooked up and pluckedfrom the muckas a light snow fell and temperatures hovered around -5 C.
