$7,942 raised during CBC K-W's Sounds of the Season campaign kickoff

Hundreds gathered at TheMuseum in downtown Kitchener for the kickoff show ofSounds of the Season, CBC Kitchener-Waterloo's annual campaign to raise food and funds for The Food Bank of Waterloo Region.

Food bank officials announced so far in the campaign, $7,942 has been raised to support people in need in Waterloo region. A large amount of that money was raised during Friday's show, but it also includes money raised online since about mid-November in the lead-up to the show.

The day included guests on a variety of topics including holiday foods from various cultures, how to spend less, how to be happy during the holidays and local events including Christmas in Cambridge and the Kitchener Rangers.

House musician Andrew Craig performed some original music, while Inshallah and the Eastwood Collegiate Chamber Choir sang some more traditional songs.

Chef AichaSmith made a low-cost soup and talked about why she started cooking.

Some people in the audience stayed for the full show, others came in specifically to make a donation to the food bank.
