Guelph libraries to hand out 1,000 free solar eclipse glasses

If you want to take in next week's solar eclipse, you can now get free solar eclipse glasses from the Guelph Public Library.

The library has a total of 1,000 glasses to give away on a first come, first serve basis. The glasses will be available at all locations.

In this area, the partial eclipse on Monday will start around 1:40 p.m. and the maximum partial eclipse will be at 2:32 p.m. It will end by 3:50 p.m.

But you can't watch it just by looking at the sky without proper protection. Regular sunglasses will not protect your retinas.

The eclipse is the first to cross the U.S. coast to coast in almost a century. The celestial event has prompted a lot of hype and hysteria.

There have been warnings from retailers, including Amazon, about counterfeit eclipse glasses that are being sold.
