Quebec man charged with human trafficking in Guelph

Several charges have been laid against a Quebec man after Guelph Police investigated an alleged case of human trafficking.

Guelph Police began investigating reports an adult woman was being trafficked in the city

A 33-year-old Quebec man has been charged in a human trafficking case, Guelph Police say.

On Sunday, officers in Guelph began investigating allegations of human trafficking involving an adult woman.

The man was arrested by Petrolia OPP on Monday and returned to Guelph.

Police would not say whether the woman was fromGuelphand would not provide further details, saying they investigate "cases that occur in our jurisdiction."

A 33-year-old Quebec man has been charged with trafficking in persons, receiving material benefit from trafficking, procuring sexual services, advertising sexual services, assault, assault with a weapon, motor vehicle theft, mischief under $5,000 and two counts of uttering death threats.

"Human trafficking is becoming a huge issue and it is occurring everywhere," Const. Mike Gatto told CBC News in an email. "This is not a big city problem."
