Police scale back, volunteers continue search for missing man in Wilmot

Waterloo Regional Police Service (WRPS) is no longer on the ground searching for Andreas Pfenning, a 24-year-old who was reported missing Monday in WilmotTownship near the Nith River.

"We scaled back our ground search because we have conducted quite an extensive search of the area ground, water, air but unfortunately those efforts have not resulted in a location of him," said Cherri Greeno, media relations coordinator at WRPS.

Greeno saidpolice will be meeting to discuss some other search options and also meeting with Ontario Provincial Police to look at what to do next in the investigation.

OPP searchers have also left the scene. It's still possible a dive team may be brought in if the weather remains suitable, search officials at the scene have told CBC News.

While the police-led ground search has been scaled back, family and volunteers are continuing to search for Pfenning.

Greeno saysthe investigation is still "very active," and they want anyone with information to contact police.

"We are still hopeful that we are able to bring some closure to the family," she said.
