Kitchener pilot, passengers injured after plane aborts takeoff in Tobermory

A Kitchener pilot and three passengers suffered minor injuries after an aborted takeoff from the Tobermory Airport Sunday, police say.

The pilot, a 50-year-old man, was set to take off in a white Piper Warrior at 7:54 p.m. on July 1 when he made the decision to stop. The plane slid sideways off the end of the runway and came to rest on its roof.

All four people had minor injuries and were treated at the scene.

The plane sustained significant damage, Bruce Peninsula OPP said in a release.

The plane was scheduled to fly from Tobermory250 km south to the Region of Waterloo International Airport.

Second this year

Police said this was the second plane crash at the Tobermory airport this year.

The other crash occurred Feb. 26 around 10 p.m. and involved a pilot from Cambridge.

In that crash,a whiteCessna 172 Seahawkplane was attempting to land,but due tosnow the wheels got caught and the plane flipped. The pilot was not injured in that crash but the plane was significantly damaged.
