Kitchener GO trains to get new SmartTrack stations in Toronto

The Kitchener GO train line will get two new SmartTrack stations, the federal and provincial governments have announced.

SmartTrack is a project between Toronto, Metrolinx and the Toronto Transit Commission (TTC) to improve transit service and connectivity between GO systems and the TTC.

The two new stations on the Kitchener GO train line will be located in Toronto: St. Clair-Old Weston and the King-Liberty stations.

The funding was part of a larger $1 billion announcement Monday made by federal Infrastructure Minister Franois-Philippe Champagne.

The funding will be used to improve capacity at Toronto's Bloor-Yonge station, and SmartTrack stations will also be added to the Stouffville and Lakeshore East GO train lines.

Champagne said the projects will improve transit, and offer "safer and better ways for commuters to get where they need to be."
