Ken Seiling re-elected as Waterloo Regional chair

Ken Seiling, a fixture on Waterloo regional council, has been elected for his tenth term as chair.

Ken Seiling,a fixture on Waterloo regional council, has been elected for his tenth term as chair.

"Im feeling really great. What I think has happened here is, what I think are the community values shone through," he said Monday night.

"We campaigned on the basis of being positive, talking about what we want to do in the community, talking about what weve done in the community and trying to buy into the vision we think the community has for itself."

With all polls reporting,Seilingfinished with 63,885 votes, according to unofficial results posted on the Region's website. Jay Aissa, who actively campaigned against Seiling and the light rail transit plan the chair supported,came in second with 25,615 votes.

The people have spoken loudly and clearly, said Aissa, when he confirmed his concession to CBC News.

[Light rail transitis] Mr. Seilings vision and people agreed with him and thats what theyre going to go withcarrying the debt load. [Ive] disagreed all along, so people agreed and so thats what the beauty of democracy [is].

Below are the newly elected regional councillors:

  • Cambridge: Karl Kieferand Helen Jowett
  • Kitchener: Karen Redman, Tom Galloway, Wayne Wettlaufer and Geoff Lorentz
  • Waterloo: Sean Strickland and Jane Mitchell
