Fentanyl charges nearly double in Guelph in 2018, police say

Police in Guelph have seen the number of charges for fentanyl possession nearly double in one year. The numbers come just days after the Wellington Guelph Drug Strategy issued a warning about blue-purple fentanyl in the city.

Police in Guelph have seen charges for fentanyl possession nearly double in oneyear.

New numbers from the force showed there were 47 charges laidfor possession of fentanyl in 2018, nearly doubling the 25 charges in 2017.

The number of charges involving carfentanilpossession dropped slightly from four in 2017 to three in 2018.

The Wellington Guelph Drug Strategy also recently issued a warning about blue-purple fentanyl.

That came after two people overdosed and one person nearly overdosed on the drug at the overdose prevention site in Guelph's downtown.
