Work has started on a $35 million, six-storeycondo unit at the corner of King andLouisa, in an area the developer has coined 'mid-town'Kitchener.

The Decade Group Inc. is building138 condominium units, ranging from500 square foot studios to 1,240 square foot apartments with multiple bedrooms. According to the developer, the units have a lot of window space, 9 foot highceilings and efficient kitchens.

"We're excited to be right on the new LRT that is happening as we speak," said co-owner JeffreyWillick.

Evolution of K-W brought developer back

Willick said hiscompany coined the location "the midtown lofts" to identify what was missing in the market place. He described the location as something in between an industrial and a high end loft that will fita young professional or an empty nester.

"The innovation district and everything else that's been going with it has been giving the right signals to come back and to look at further development," Willick said. "When you add things like the LRT, which we really are looking forward to being right on the LRT with this project, it makes good sense."

This is the second real estate venture in the community for the Decade Group Inc., which has already opened a self storage building on Victoria Street inKitchener.

The King andLouisaproperty was purchased two years ago, and Willik said the condo units will be ready for occupancy by the summer of 2017.
