School trustee Cindy Watson eyes Conservative Party nomination in Cambridge

Another name has been added to the list for the federal Conservative Party nomination inCambridge.

Waterloo Region District School Board TrusteeCindy Watsonsaid she intends to run for the nomination.

That means she'll be going upagainst former Cambridge mayor Doug Craig, who said he wanted the seat after losinghis mayoral spot to former LiberalMPPKathrynMcGarryin the Oct. 22 municipal election.

"Even before the [municipal] election I had people suggesting that I run for that," Watson toldCBCNews.

"To me, it just seems like a natural progression. I would advocate at the federal level and bring the concerns of Cambridge froward."

Watson said she plans on continuing the"collaborative approach" she has used during her 18 years as a school board trustee.

"I think my strength is being a strong advocate for the concerns of the people that live in Cambridge," she said.

Liberal MP,ByanMay, currently holdsthe seat in Cambridge.
