Cambridge ward 7 byelection delayed until fall due to COVID-19

The byelection to fill the vacant ward 7 council seat in Cambridge is expected to be held this fall, the city's clerk says.

The ward 7 byelection in Cambridge is expected to go forward this fall, although city officials have not yet released the date.

The byelection was scheduled to take place on March 23, but was postponed due to COVID-19.

City clerk Danielle Manton said on Monday sheis currently working on a report to council to set a new date.That report is expected to be brought forward in the coming weeks.

Manton saysthe city must consider how to keep people safe while they vote.

She thanked residents of ward 7 for their "understanding and patience."

Nine people are seeking the seat, which was left vacant when councillor Frank Montiero died in October.
