BlackBerry users to get Amazon Appstore access in fall

BlackBerry is adding the Amazon Appstore in the next update to its operating system this fall, a move that will give users access to apps like Pinterest, Groupon and Netflix.

BlackBerry is adding the AmazonAppstorein thenext update to its operating system this fall.

The move will give users of the BlackBerry 10.3 operating systemeasy access to thousands more of the most popular Android apps andgames, like Pinterest, Netflixand Candy Crush Saga.

The smartphone maker has been criticized for the lack ofapplications available for its devices.

By adding the Amazon Appstore, BlackBerry says its app developerprogram can put more emphasis on business and productivityapplications.

BlackBerry, based in Waterloo, Ont., has been working to return to itsbusiness-focused roots as consumers have flocked to Apple andAndroid smartphones.

BlackBerry recently announced a three-year mobile paymentagreement with EnStream, a joint venture between Canada's threebiggest telecom companies.

Under the partnership, BlackBerry will provide securitytechnology that supports transactions made by customers throughtheir mobile devices.
