BlackBerry releases luxury $2,340 Porsche keyboard phone

BlackBerry and the Porsche Design Group announced a luxury-edition smartphone with a QWERTY keyboard - the P9983 - at an event in Dubai today.

The price of the phone is hefty listed on the Porsche Design Group's websiteat 1650, about $2,340 Cdn.

The Porsche Design Group is a subsidiary of the German automakerPorsche AG.

It's a phone clearly aimed at international travellers, and comes with a "premium stereo headset,"international charging kit, a polishing cloth and a USB cable, according to a press release.Users can pick between an English or an Arabic-language phone

The smartphone will run theBlackBerry10 operating system and includes a sapphire glass camera lensand a forged stainless steel frame.

Phone users will also get aunique BlackBerry PIN that marks them as a Porsche phone userall the IDs will start with the 2AAprefix.

According to the Porsche Design Group's website, the P'9983 itself is 119 mm long (4.64 inches) and 67.1 mm wide (2.64 in), almost the same size as BlackBerry's Q10 QWERTY keyboard phone that was released last year.
