2nd woman slashed in the head in random attack, police say

Hamilton police are investigating another incident over the weekend where a woman was slashed in the head by a man.

It's the second such incident that happened in the last couple of days, and police say they're trying to figure out if the same man was responsible for both assaults. Both victims appear to have been randomly attacked.

In a news release sent out on Tuesday, police said that a woman came forward yesterday to report an incident that happened on the morning of March 3, when she was shoveling snow in the area of Victoria Avenue and Evans Street.

"The victim was approached by an unknown male riding a bike. The suspect raised his fist and hit the victim in the nose with a sharp object.The suspect then left on his bike never exchanging any words with the victim," the news release reads.

Det. Sgt. Mike Cunliffe from Hamilton police told reporters at a Tuesday afternoon press conference that the man "slashed the woman across the face with a boxcutter."

She later went to hospital and was treated for minor injuries to her nose.

Police are now investigating if the incident is connected to a similar attack at Cannon and Wentworth streets around 7 p.m. Sunday, where a woman was assaulted "several times with a sharp object to her head."

"The police are investigating the two stabbings as possibly the same person," the news release reads.

"These two items are very concerning to us," Cunliffeadded.

The man is described as around six feet, three inches tall, and about 200 pounds, with a slender build.

The man was clean shaven, and had a "prominent nose," police say. He was also wearing a dark brown jacket with a fur hood.
